We, members of the SEAS St. Vincent de Paul Conference, are very grateful to our fellow parishioners for their generous support of our efforts to help our less fortunate neighbors in paying their rents, utility bills, and other expenses thus avoiding serious interruptions in their lives. What we receive in our monthly second collection on the third Sunday of each month is completely and directly spent on helping them. There is an Archdiocesan Council to which all parish Conferences report. This weekend, we will have a Black Bag second collection to help support the Council in all they do, such as providing training for our members, managing distribution of grants from outside benefactors which we process for additional assistance to our Friends, and other background activities. Please contribute generously to this collection in addition to your regular contributions on the Third Sunday so that we all can continue to assist our neighbors.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a worldwide Christian Community founded in 1833 by a group of lay people who dedicated their lives to the poor and the Church. The Society remains an international Catholic voluntary organization of lay men and women to this day. “Vincentian’s” follow Christ through service to those in need and so bear witness to His compassionate and liberating love. Through a service of hope, Vincentian’s attempt to alleviate suffering and promote human dignity and personal integrity to those in need. Relationships based on trust and friendships are established through an understanding of each brother or sister in Christ. In turn Vincentian’s never forget the many blessings they receive from those they visit.
Office Volunteers take calls and with compassion begin a plan of assistance for those in need regardless of creed, ethnic or social background. Many have lost their jobs and some are disabled. Other callers have been abused, abandoned and many are hungry.
The Home Visitor team seeks to emulate St. Vincent in promoting love and respect for the poor. Often prayer, counseling, temporary financial assistance and additional resources are given. The Visiting Team prays that the Holy Spirit may guide them during their visits and make them channels for the peace and joy of Christ.
Behind the scenes volunteers assist with the financial committee, technical support and logistical planning for supplies and donations.
The Society of St Vincent de Paul (281/463-4560) welcomes you to become part of our family. Donations and volunteers sustain the Society in affirming the dignity of each human being as created in God’s image.
Remember Christ’s words, “when you did it for one of the least of my people, you did it for me!”
