Easter 4: Good Shepherd Sunday
 
On the Fourth Sunday of Easter each year, the Church celebrates Good Shepherd Sunday. In the rather brief Gospel reading for this weekend, we hear Jesus say:

My sheep hear my voice;

I know them, and they follow me.

I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.

No one can take them out of my hand.

My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all,

and no one can take them out of the Father’s hand.

The Father and I are one. (John 10:27–30)

The Lord Jesus is certainly our Good Shepherd, and he continually calls to us for us to listen to him. He is the one leading us towards Eternal Life, guiding us along the Path of being one of his disciples, and protecting us against enemies that could do us spiritual harm. 
 
As the Lord revealing himself to us as the Good Shepherd, he also reveals his own intimate unity with his Father: “The Father and I are one.” As the Lord calls us to intimate communion with him – in listening to his voice and being guided by him – he also invites us to share in the intimate communion he has with his own Father. As we are close to the Lord, we are close to his Father. In this, we are drawn into the very life of the Holy Trinity. And this is the life of Holiness – this is the life of Sanctification. As we receive the Sacraments worthily and with devotion, we will be made into the saints that the Lord is calling us to be.
 
I also want to congratulate newly ordained Deacon Thomas Vu, the seminarian who was with us on his pastoral year during the 2023–2024 school year. He is a member of our parish and considers St. Elizabeth Ann Seton to be his parish home! We are proud to have Deacon Thomas Vu back on to our parish serving as Deacon during the 10:30 a.m. Mass, proclaiming the Gospel and preaching the Homily! There will be a reception in the CLC afterwards. When you see him on campus, please offer your heartfelt congratulations as well as your prayers, as he has one more year of seminary before he will be ordained a Priest of Jesus Christ.
 
On this Good Shepherd Sunday, let us also pray for all the seminarians who are a part of our parish – Deacon Thomas Vu, Mateo Hernandez, and Francisco Maldonado – , that the Lord might offer them perseverance and the grace to say “yes” to being a Priest of Jesus Christ!
 
This summer we will also welcome seminarian Adrian Garcia, who has just finished up his first year of priestly formation at St. Mary’s Seminary. He will spend the months of June and July with us in the parish, taking part in the many summer activities as have here at SEAS. This Fall we will also have another seminarian staying for the entire academic year – Keenan Annichiarico – who was with us here at SEAS during the summer a few years ago.
 
Please continue to pray for many vocations to the priesthood to come from our parish!

Pascua 4: Domingo del Buen Pastor
 
El Cuarto Domingo de Pascua de cada año, la Iglesia celebra el Domingo del Buen Pastor. En la breve lectura del Evangelio de este fin de semana, escuchamos a Jesús decir:

Mis ovejas oyen mi voz;

yo las conozco y me siguen.

Yo les doy vida eterna y no perecerán jamás.

Nadie las puede arrebatar de mi mano.

Mi Padre, que me las ha dado, es mayor que todos,

y nadie las puede arrebatar de la mano del Padre.

El Padre y yo somos uno. (Juan 10:27-30)

 
El Señor Jesús es sin duda nuestro Buen Pastor y nos llama continuamente para que lo escuchemos. Él es quien nos conduce hacia la Vida Eterna, nos guía por el camino de ser uno de sus discípulos y nos protege de los enemigos que podrían dañarnos espiritualmente.
 
Al revelarse el Señor a nosotros como el Buen Pastor, también revela su íntima unidad con su Padre: “El Padre y yo somos uno”. Al llamarnos a una comunión íntima con él —escuchando su voz y dejándonos guiar por él—, también nos invita a compartir la comunión íntima que él tiene con su Padre. Al estar cerca del Señor, estamos cerca de su Padre. En esto, nos adentramos en la vida misma de la Santísima Trinidad. Y esta es la vida de la Santidad, la vida de la Santificación. Al recibir los Sacramentos dignamente y con devoción, nos convertiremos en los santos que el Señor nos llama a ser.
 
Quiero también felicitar al recién ordenado Diácono Thomas Vu, seminarista que nos acompañó en su año pastoral durante el curso escolar 2023-2024. Es miembro de nuestra parroquia y considera a Santa Elizabeth Ann Seton como su hogar parroquial. Nos enorgullece tener de regreso al Diácono Thomas Vu en nuestra parroquia, sirviendo como Diácono durante la Misa de las 10:30 a. m., proclamando el Evangelio y predicando la Homilía. Después, habrá una recepción en el CLC. Cuando lo vean en el campus, por favor, felicítenlo de corazón y oren por él, ya que le queda un año más de seminario antes de ser ordenado Sacerdote de Jesucristo.
 
En este Domingo del Buen Pastor, oremos también por todos los seminaristas de nuestra parroquia: el Diácono Thomas Vu, Mateo Hernández y Francisco Maldonado, para que el Señor les conceda perseverancia y la gracia de decir "sí" a ser Sacerdotes de Jesucristo.
 
Este verano también daremos la bienvenida al seminarista Adrián García, quien acaba de terminar su primer año de formación sacerdotal en el Seminario de Santa María. Pasará los meses de junio y julio con nosotros en la parroquia, participando en las numerosas actividades de verano que se realizan aquí en SEAS. Este otoño también tendremos a otro seminarista que se quedará durante todo el año académico: Keenan Annichiarico, quien estuvo con nosotros en SEAS durante el verano hace unos años.
 
¡Por favor, sigan orando por muchas vocaciones al sacerdocio en nuestra parroquia!
