Parents wishing to have their children baptized at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton must participate in the following pre-baptismal program prior to having their child baptized:
First, parents should register/submit baptism application along with child’s birth certificate, (child must be 6 years or under to celebrate sacrament) godparents must sign form addressed to them.
After completing the required class work, parents should notify the parish office approximately one week prior to when they want their children baptized.
Godparents are invited and encouraged to attend the baptismal classes with the parents. If the godparents are not members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, it is suggested that parents ask the godparents to participate in a baptismal program in their own parish. As required by Canon Law, godparents must be Catholic, 16 years of age or older, and have received the three sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist). If they are married, their marriage must be a valid Catholic marriage (witnessed by a Catholic priest or deacon).
For more information on Baptism, please call the Office at 281-463-787 or email [email protected] to request Baptismal Application.
“Baptism not only purifies from all sins, but also makes the neophyte ‘a new creature,’ an adopted son of God, who has become a ‘partaker of the divine nature,’ member of Christ and co-heir with him, and a temple of the Holy Spirit. The Most Holy Trinity gives the baptized sanctifying grace, the grace of justification:
enabling them to believe in God, to hope in him and to love him through the theological virtues;
giving them the power to live and act under the prompting of the Holy Spirit through the gifts of the Holy Spirit;
allowing them to grow in goodness through the moral virtues. Thus the whole organism of the Christian’s supernatural life has its roots in Baptism.”
